The monographic auction is dedicated to a variety of graphic works exclusively by Max Ernst from the beginnings of his work to the late period in the 1970s. The offerings cover a wide variety of printmaking techniques, including lithographs, aquatint etchings and serigraphs.
The lots come from the renowned collector Harald Loebermann (1923-1996), who collected the prints with great passion in over 40 years. The collector appreciated above all Max Ernst's lifelong inventiveness and the hidden order in apparent chaos. Harald Loebermann, who also built up an extensive collection of works by Lyonel Feininger, always put great emphasis on the print quality and the condition of the prints.
