2068 PARFUMIERE BELT PENDANT. GÜRTELANHÄNGER FÜR DUFT. China. Qing Dynasty. 18th/19th c. Bronze with gilding and turquoise, partly carved. Silk cord with aquamarine and seed beads. In flattened gourd shape with a stopper like a snuffbottle. In openwork from tendrils, on a small foot in flowershape. The upper part is removable, to open the lower compartment for the perfume. Everyday clothes as well as to the official (chifu) and courtly (chaofu) garments of the Manchu included various pendants for the belt (chao dai), including such for fragrance.
