2170 AMITAYUS. AMITAYUS. Tibet. 17th/18th c. Bronze, finely engraved, with fire gilding and pigments. Sitting on a lotus base in dhyanasana and holding his hands in meditation posture. Crowned with a fivepartite crown, the upper body, wrist and feet adorned with strings of pearls. The broad, distinctive shoulders as a counterpart to the narrow waist are characteristic for the Sinotibetan style of that time. The finely engraved hem border also refers to Chinese influences. Height 17.3cm. Condition A/B. Reference: -A stylistically similar piece is located in the collection of the British Museum in London. Provenance: -Private collection from Aurich, Northern Germany. Sitting on a lotus throne, the dhoti around the hips and the shawl at the shoulders in decorative folds. Wearing seven-partite Bodhisattva jewelry and five-leaved jewel crown. With the left hand once holding the amrita vessel, the right hand in bhumisparsa mudra. Bottom closed. Height 17cm. Condition A/B. Base closed later. The seven-partite bodhisattva jewelry and the jewel-crown with rich details, as well as the dhoti robe draped into elegant pleats show a high quality of handicraft. Together with the high grade of gilding suggests an early date. Height 13cm.
