Virapaksa, the Lokapâla guardian of the West, dressed in a suit of armor, standing on a rock. With his right hand he holds a chilong-dragon and his left a pearl. Height 31.5cm. Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Bronze with residue of lacquer gilding. Inside painted red, as usual. Sitting in padmâsana, his right hand in bhumisparsa mudrâ. The hair is shown as small spirals in relief with an oval highlighting in front of the ushnisha. His threepart clothing (jiasha) with the mantle (sanghati) worn over both shoulders (tongjian) is decorated with flower borders in low relief. Height 23.1cm.
