RARE FOOD CONTAINER HTAMIN JAINT. Myanmar/Burma. 20th c. Bamboo/wood, outside lacquered black with fine red edges, inside red. Four parts, each with tray, the uppermost tray quartered. The cover with an inscription, probably from a manufacturer. The form was originally imported from India in the early 20th century, but spread fast in Burma. Height 47.5cm, Ø 21cm. Condition A/B. RARE TABLET BYAT. Northeast Myanmar/Burma. End of 19th c. Shan. Bamboo, braided. Lacquered red on black. The wide tray on four feet was used for serving food. From the use an organic patina was formed, reminiscent of Japanese negoro lacquer. The reduced form is reminiscent of elegant Japanese ones. Height 8cm, Ø 45cm. BETEL CONTAINER KUN IT. Myanmar/Burma. Mid 20th c. Pagan. Bamboo. Cinnabar red lacuqer with very fine incised yun decoration in yellow and orange over black. A masterpiece with kunan kanbyat pattern, which refers to the neighboring Chinese province of Yunnan. In addition, a meticulous dotted pattern is set in orange. On the cover in the center a medallion with a dancer, on the edge an inscription is incised. Interior with a tray. Height 24.5cm, Ø 26.5cm. Underneath a manufacturer’s signature. Conditon A/B.
