On 17 November 2017 VAN HAM has the pleasure of presenting an exquisite industrial collection of 19th century paintings and Old Master Paintings.
The South German collection came into being in the 1920's with the support of renowned art historian Walter Bernt and has been part of a private family estate for three generations. Bernt is known for his groundbreaking research on the art of 17th century Dutch painting, so it is no wonder that this is the focal point of the collection.
Almost all paintings - aside from a small number of exceptions found in catalogues raisonnés - have been publically obscure, and not been exhibited since their acquisition, making them market novelties at our auction. This autumn, the collection will get its own exclusive catalogue comprising of ca. 50 lots. We are offering exquisite lots ranging from monumental works by Fine Art masters Salomon van Ruysdael, Jacob Isaacz van Ruisdael and Jan van Goyen as well as impeccable 19th century canvas paintings by Heinrich Bürkel, Wilhelm Leibl and Johann Wilhelm Schirmer.
