From 20 March to 14 April 2025, VAN HAM Art Estate presents the exhibition “Fritz Schaefler - Expression and Color”, curated by Dr. Renate Goldmann, as part of this year’s art Kuratorenpreis. This catalog presents the carefully curated selection of paintings, works on paper and glass works on view and for sale during the exhibition.
Fritz Schaefler (1888-1954) is one of the most important German painters and graphic artists of the 20th century, known above all for his contribution to the Expressionist art movement. Stylistically, his oeuvre is characterized by powerful, often dynamic brushstrokes and intense colours. Schaefler critically examined the social and political developments of his time. His artistic versatility is reflected in a wide range of subjects, from portraits and landscapes to socially critical depictions.
