The German-French painter Jean Leppien (1910 - 1991) is one of the best-known representatives of geometric abstraction in post-war modernism. As an exiled artist, Leppien drew on his experiences both from his Bauhaus days in Dessau and from his encounters with art abstrait in Paris. The Art Store offers all art lovers and collectors an exciting insight into the artist's oeuvre in the sales catalogue.
Coming from the line, he explores in serial works the effect of colours in connection with simple geometric forms such as the circle. Crosses and predella paintings are later preferred themes. In his paintings, such as in the UFO series, the colours of the South can be felt. The painter's late work is characterised by extreme reduction of colour surfaces with isolated accents and collages.
