Bernard Schultze (1915-2005) is one of the most important representatives of gestural-abstract art in the second half of the 20th century. As a member of the "Quadriga", he had a decisive influence on the development of Informel in Germany in the 1950s, alongside K.O. Götz, Otto Greis and Heinz Kreutz.
From a drawing process, the artist also developed dense structures in painting, which proliferated across the canvas and sometimes spread sculpturally beyond it into the room. His impressive late work is characterised by large formats that, despite their non-objectivity, trigger associations with landscapes or moods. This process is supported by the enigmatic-poetic titles that the artist adds as a further layer of the work.
