Under the title "Final Sales” VAM HAM auctioned off over 1,500 lots during a three-day auction marathon from the insolvency estate of the Auctionata group. In April 2017 VAN HAM was chosen to stage the auction of this mixed lot. In spite of a tight schedule, we proceeded with the organisation of this extensive auction. It was a challenging project: Not just because the lots consisted of a diverse array of art and goods for which adequate storage capacity was needed, but also because we intended to conduct the auction in springtime.

One of our secrets to mastering such a complex endeavour is having a greatly attuned team of specialists. Another beneficial aspect is our new building complex with very spacious facilities that enable us to efficiently store complete collections and inventory even on short notice, professionally catalogue the objects, and photograph them for our auction catalogues. The facilities were specially constructed to cater to these logistical requirements and have proven effective time and again. Thanks to the capacious warehouse VAN HAM can guarantee flexibility and agency. The groundbreaking success of the Achenbach auctions conducted by Markus Eisenbeis and his team have proven that when it comes to insolvency and the liquidation of collections, VAN HAM is a trustworthy business partner. Here, the goal was to prepare the extensive collection of artworks for the auction under a rigorous schedule and market the lots through targeted press and PR campaigns. In achieving this, VAN HAM has set a historic record for conducting the largest auction of Contemporary Art in Germany. All lots were auctioned off: small format art, works of giant scale, lesser-known artists and well-known masters with closing bids ranging from smaller to record-breaking sums.

At the "Final Sales” auction our sublime catalogue on Contemporary Art received widespread attention. The cover lot, the photography "Kate" by American Photographer" Chuck Close, received the highest bid at the auction: the work was acquired for €38,000 by a private collector from New York. Works by Close's compatriots Robert Longo, Alex Katz and David Hockney also went for top hammer prices. The category Post War was also very popular, especially among international bidders. We were very pleased with the great hammer prices for A.R. Penck and Horst Janssen’s pieces.

The category Wine, which celebrated its premiere at VAN HAM, was positively received and nearly all lots found a new owner. The knock-down rates for porcelain were also very impressive and every lot in this category found a buyer.

We strive to continue to be a professional and transparent partner when it comes to specialty auctions and will use our outstanding position as market leader to help you achieve the best possible result.
